Foreclosure Hits Home

A foreclosure just across the street from my home just went to auction. The reality of foreclosure just hit home.

The family that lived there had lived there for almost 13 years. 13 years! That's a long time in a home and then having to walk away from all those memories. Wow.

I really felt bad for the family. I knew them well. But, it's the kids that I really feel for. They were born there, raised there, now having to leave there.

For children, it's must not make a whole lot of sense. One moment you're putting up posters of your favorite band, the next moment your packing that poster and moving to another place after 13 years. Must be hard.

As I sit on front steps staring at the now empty home, I realize how close we all are to foreclosure (if you own a home) and just how lucky and scared I felt all at once.

With a little bad luck, some major financial tugs at the saving account and suddenly you're behind 4 months on mortgage.

I surely hope the higher ups start to really take notice at a local level what this market is doing to families like the one across the street from me.

I sure hope my neighbor across from me doesn't soon say the same thing...
